Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare Selected as Beneficiary of Poker for Ponies Charity Tournament

Rio Grande, Puerto Rico April 2026 - Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare (CTA), the only Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance-accredited organization in the Caribbean, is honored to be selected for the second consecutive year as a beneficiary of Resolute Racing’s Poker for Ponies Charity Poker Tournament.

The event will take place on Thursday, April 30, at The Omni Hotel in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. Poker for Ponies invites players of all levels to participate in a professionally run Texas Hold’em tournament benefiting aftercare organizations across the country. Player buy-ins begin at $1,000, with spectator tickets available for $100. Both options include an open bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres, music, and on-site activities. In 2025, the event raised more than $500,000 in support of equine aftercare initiatives. Poker for Ponies is administered by Racing to Rescue, the nonprofit charitable arm of Resolute Racing, which is committed to the ethical treatment of Thoroughbreds beyond the racetrack.

Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare provides rehabilitation, retraining, rehoming, and sanctuary for retired racehorses in Puerto Rico, while also leading educational programs focused on equine welfare and responsible ownership throughout the Caribbean. With the ongoing challenges of island logistics, limited resources, and increasing demand for aftercare services, support from initiatives like Poker for Ponies plays a critical role in sustaining and expanding CTA’s impact.
